Message from Ward chair Jon Henriksen
Our
city provides many good and necessary services. These services
include police and fire protection, domestic water for our homes and
businesses, waste disposal, streets, parks and education. The city
provides many other necessary services, all of which require
funding.
The two greatest threats to our finances are inflation and debt.
Property taxes for my Ward 2 home have increased about 8% annually
in the 17 years that I have owned my home. 8% annual increases are
not sustainable. We need to do everything possible to keep tax
increases to 2% or less. Given the revenue projections for the State
of Minnesota, federal debt, the projected obligations to Medicare
and Social Security we cannot and should not expect state revenue or
federal revenue (with the resulting debt) to solve city problems.
Urge our elected officials to provide basic, necessary services at a
good price so our city can prosper and create and sustain good jobs
and quality of life. All of us getting involved in electing and
communicating with our elected officials will make a difference!
Please contact me if you agree and with your ideas as
to how we can
best spread the word and elect more responsible city leaders.
