Message from Ward Chair Nathan
Higgins
Greetings,
Welcome to Ward 8. My name is Nathan Higgins and I have a creeping
suspicion that government without restraint is the enemy of freedom.
I believe in individual liberty and the right of self-government.
And I believe that the power of individuals, working together in the
interest of good governance and personal freedom, is a power that
cannot, ultimately, be stifled by the dehumanizing and parasitical
force of bureaucracy.
Bureaucracy (bureaucracy, redundant bureaucracy, and more
bureaucracy again) is often the mother of needless complexity and
waste. This needless complexity conditions us to believe that such
matters as government can only be understood and managed by certain
authoritative "experts", that is to say, professional politicians. I
believe in citizens. I am no professional expert, but the world
belongs to those who show up. So show up.
I intend to serve as a focal point for our ward and I hope to
stimulate dialogue among residents who care. I want to hear what
people's concerns are. If you've got fears, furies, passions, or
intentions regarding our ward and our city,
contact me. I also
encourage people to talk to each other and to get involved at
whatever degree you feel you can. Most of us aren't experts here.
We're ordinary citizens striving for self-government. Its an ongoing
effort.
I'll be sending out periodic e-mail updates to Ward 8 residents and
holding ward meetings every few months. If you don't hear from me,
it means you probably ought to give me your contact info. My e-mail
is

Blessings and good luck,
Nathan
